A day of adventure and excitement turned into a heartbreaking tragedy on Thursday near Garud Chatti in Rishikesh, when a rafting trip on the Ganga River ended with the death of a young man.
The victim has been identified as Sagar Negi, a resident of Patel Nagar in Dehradun. He was rafting with a group of friends from Shivpuri, a popular starting point for rafting in Rishikesh. Everything was going smoothly until their raft reached near the Garud Chatti Bridge, where it suddenly overturned, throwing everyone into the river.
According to the police, the rafting guide was able to rescue the other tourists safely. However, Sagar was found unconscious in the water. He was quickly taken to the hospital, but sadly, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Early reports suggest that Sagar may have swallowed a large amount of water, which could be the reason for his death. However, the exact cause will be known only after the postmortem is completed.
Police have informed Sagar’s family, and further legal steps are being taken. The tragic accident has left many shocked, especially as the rafting season is currently attracting large numbers of tourists to Rishikesh.
This sad incident is a reminder that even fun activities like rafting carry risks and that safety should always be the top priority.
