Are Illegal Madrasas Being Funded Through Hawala Transactions?

136 Illegal Madrasas Sealed Across the State So Far!

The Uttarakhand government, after taking strict action against illegal madrasas, is now set to conduct a thorough investigation into their sources of funding. Officials will submit their reports directly to the Chief Minister’s Office.

For the past month, large-scale operations have been carried out against illegal madrasas in the state. So far, 136 madrasas have been sealed due to a lack of proper documentation. Reports indicate that more than 500 illegal madrasas are currently operating across the state. This raises a crucial question—where is the funding coming from for their operations and staff salaries? Is there a larger, organized conspiracy behind this under the guise of religion? The investigation aims to uncover whether these madrasas in Uttarakhand are receiving foreign funding.

District-Level Committee to Conduct Investigation

There are approximately 450 registered madrasas in the state that provide complete documentation, including bank account details and financial records, to the administration. However, over 500 madrasas are reportedly running without official recognition. To verify the identities of students enrolled in these institutions and scrutinize their financial sources, the government has issued strict instructions to district administrations. Authorities will ensure transparency by investigating the sources of funding and how the funds are being utilized.

Illegal Madrasas Emerging in Border Areas

Recently, several unregistered madrasas have been reported in border areas adjoining Uttar Pradesh, including towns like Jaspur, Bajpur, Kichha, Kashipur, Rudrapur, Gadarpur, Pachhwadoon, and Haridwar. The rapid increase in unauthorized madrasas in these areas has raised serious security concerns. The government is investigating their funding sources and objectives while taking appropriate action.

Illegal Madrasa Construction Halted

In a recent crackdown, the Dehradun district administration sealed a large madrasa in Sahaspur for unauthorized construction. Despite receiving prior notice, the madrasa had illegally constructed an additional floor without official approval.

“The crackdown on illegal madrasas will continue, and officials have been instructed to take the necessary action.”
