BJP Youth Leader Rohit Negi Shot Dead in Dehradun

A local BJP youth leader Rohit Negi was shot in Dehradun late Monday night, according to police authorities.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight at Peepal Chowk in the Manduwala area where Negi (a former divisional president of the BJP Yuva Morcha) was returning home with friends in his car.

The police stated that the attack was carried out by Azhar Tyagi, a resident of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle with an accomplice. Tyagi allegedly opened fire at Negi’s vehicle, striking him in the neck. Negi’s friends rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A murder case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Negi’s friend. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and multiple police teams have been deployed to catch the accused, who remain at large.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the dispute stemmed from a heated argument between BJP youth leader Negi and Tyagi over the phone regarding a female friend. Tyagi reportedly objected to the relationship between Negi’s close friend and a woman from another community, which escalated tensions between both parties. Tyagi had previously threatened Negi and this personal enmity is believed to have triggered the violent attack.
