A dramatic confrontation between a police officer and a senior bureaucrat in Dehradun has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, after a video capturing the incident went viral.
The altercation took place between Sub-Inspector Harsh Arora of Premnagar Police Station and Arunendra Chauhan, Director of the Deendayal Upadhyay Institute of Financial Research and Training, who also holds the rank of Additional Secretary in the Provincial Civil Services (PCS). The incident reportedly unfolded at the center of an ongoing land dispute.
According to eyewitness accounts, both parties arrived at the disputed site with conflicting claims. One party asserted that the access road cuts through private land, while Chauhan maintained that it is a government road. The verbal exchange quickly intensified, with Chauhan accusing the police officer of favoring the opposing side. In response, SI Harsh Arora claimed he was acting under instructions from the Station House Officer (SHO).
In a separate video clip from the scene, Chauhan is seen alleging physical assault and expressing his outrage in strong terms. The situation further deteriorated when another individual was heard using abusive language, adding to the tension and drawing even more attention online.
Taking swift action in the wake of the controversy, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh has relieved Sub-Inspector Arora from field duties, reassigning him to line duty as an interim measure.
The matter has now reached the highest levels of state governance. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed serious concern over the incident and has instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to conduct a thorough investigation. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach, the Chief Minister stated that any involvement of police personnel in unlawful activities—particularly those related to land disputes—will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The video has ignited a debate about the conduct of public officials and the role of law enforcement in civil disputes, raising questions about accountability and transparency. As the inquiry unfolds, the public and officials alike await further developments in what has become one of the most talked-about confrontations in recent days.
