Seven Members of Dehradun Family Found Dead in Car in Panchkula
In a heart-wrenching incident, seven members of a family from Dehradun were found dead inside a locked car in Sector 27 of Panchkula, Haryana, on the night of May 26, 2025. The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Praveen Mittal, his wife Reena, their three children—14-year-old son Hardik and 11-year-old twin daughters Dhruvika and Dalisha—and Praveen’s elderly parents, Deshraj and Vimla.
According to preliminary investigations, the family had attended a religious event at Bageshwar Dham earlier that day. Instead of returning home, they parked their Hyundai Aura car in a residential area of Sector 27 in Panchkula. A local resident noticed the vehicle with its windows covered and found the occupants unresponsive. Praveen was initially found alive but in a critical state; he later succumbed at the hospital.
A two-page suicide note was recovered from the car, in which Praveen expressed responsibility for the family’s dire financial situation, stating, “I have gone bankrupt. I am responsible for all this.” He also requested that his father-in-law not be harassed and that his cousin perform the family’s last rites.
Relatives revealed that Praveen had previously owned a scrap factory in Himachal Pradesh, which was seized by the bank due to unpaid loans. The family was reportedly burdened with a debt of approximately ₹20 crore and had been receiving death threats from creditors.
This tragedy has left the community in shock and underscores the severe impact of financial distress on mental health. Authorities of Panchkula are continuing their investigation into the matter.
