“Dehradun’s rivers and drains must remain clean, and for that, we’ve strengthened our approach,” said Namami Bansal
“Dehradun’s rivers and drains must remain clean, and for that, we’ve strengthened our approach,” said Namami Bansal, the Municipal Commissioner of Dehradun, addressing the ongoing efforts by the Dehradun Municipal Corporation.
They stated that special arrangements have been made to ensure that no garbage is dumped in rivers like Rispana and Bindal or in seasonal streams and drains. “Mobile waste collection points have been set up near riverbanks, and everyone must use only these for waste disposal. If anyone is found dumping garbage near rivers, drains, or roadsides, strict fines will be imposed,” they warned.
The Commissioner further said that garbage already lying in and around these water bodies is being cleared using JCB machines and manpower. “Seasonal drains and khals are also being cleaned rapidly to prevent pollution and blockage, especially ahead of the monsoon,” they added.
They noted that waste collection agencies have been given clear instructions—if they fail to follow proper procedures or allow waste to be dumped in restricted areas, action will be taken.
“Wherever we receive complaints of garbage dumping, or if anyone is caught in the act, heavy penalties will follow along with strict action. In some recent cases, fines have already been imposed after verification,” Bansal said.
They concluded by saying, “Our campaign will continue. The goal is to maintain clean rivers and drains across Dehradun, and we appeal to citizens to support us in keeping our city clean.”
