A day after the Aryan Aviation helicopter crashed in the forests near Gauri Kund new CCTV footage from Kedarnath helipad has come to light.
The footage shows the helicopter landing and taking off just minutes before the tragic incident.
According to the video the helicopter arrived at Kedarnath around 5.20 in the morning. After quickly dropping off and boarding passengers it took off again at 5.21 and a few seconds. The flight was heading toward Guptkashi.
The CCTV of Gauri Kund Crash footage clearly shows that the weather was stable and the sky was clear during the entire time. This has led to fresh speculation that the crash might not have been due to weather but rather due to a technical fault in the aircraft.
Aviation experts and investigation teams are now closely studying the footage and available flight data. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has started a detailed investigation. Local police and disaster response forces had reached the crash site soon after the incident was reported.
Eyewitnesses near Gauri Kund mentioned hearing a loud sound around the time of the crash. The exact reason behind the helicopter going down will only be confirmed after the investigation concludes.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of helicopter operations in high altitude regions during the Char Dham Yatra season. With heavy air traffic around Kedarnath officials may now take stricter steps to ensure the safety of pilgrims and flight crews.
