In Har Ki Pauri, 1 man rescued by State Disaster Response Force

A heart-stopping rescue took place at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar

A young man from Jammu and Kashmir was swept away by the powerful currents of the Ganga during a holy bath. The incident, which could have ended in tragedy was avoided thanks to the alertness and swift action of the disaster relief team.

The Ganga’s current at Har Ki Pauri is known to be extremely strong. While thousands of devotees visit the Har Ki Pauri ghat every day to take a ritual bath, even a slight misstep can lead to someone being pulled into the fast-moving water. To prevent such mishaps, thick iron chains have been installed on the bridges across the ghat. These chains act as life-saving support for anyone caught in the flow.

On Friday, the young man lost his balance while bathing and was suddenly dragged into the forceful stream of Har Ki Pauri. As he was being carried away, he somehow managed to grab onto one of the heavy iron chains tied to the next bridge. He clung to it for several minutes, stranded in the middle of the river with the current raging around him.

Thankfully, a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was nearby and immediately sprang into action. They reached the man swiftly and carried out a successful rescue operation, pulling him to safety. For the onlookers and the young man himself, the SDRF team truly appeared like guardian angels.

The dramatic rescue was captured on video and has since gone viral, drawing praise for the bravery and dedication of the SDRF personnel. It also serves as a powerful reminder of the risks involved while bathing in the river and the importance of the safety measures in place at such high-traffic pilgrimage sites.
