A tragic accident near Lachhiwala Toll Plaza, where a dumper truck lost control due to brake failure and crashed into a car, claimed two lives!
In the wake of this incident, authorities moved swiftly to address the issue of vehicle speed in the area. The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) conducted a detailed inspection and submitted a report with safety recommendations to the District Road Safety Committee, chaired by the District Magistrate of Dehradun.
As a result, the committee convened on March 27, 2025, and decided that speed breakers should be installed before the Lachhiwala Toll barrier to slow down traffic. However, since national highway regulations do not allow traditional speed breakers due to the risks they pose at high speeds, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opted for rumble strips instead.
According to officials, these rumble strips comply with prescribed national highway safety standards. However, despite meeting technical requirements, many drivers have found them difficult to spot, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
While authorities insist that all safety measures are in place, local residents and daily drivers argue that more needs to be done. They are calling for better visibility, clearer warning signs, and additional safety precautions to prevent further mishaps.
