Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Operation Kaalnemi has only just begun. He stated that the government will now take strict action against those posing as sadhus to mislead people.
“We were receiving continuous complaints from the genuine sadhu-saint community,” CM Dhami said. “Now, action will be taken against imposters hiding behind religious attire.”
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the state has previously taken tough action against infiltrators and this campaign is an extension of that commitment.
As part of the crackdown, Dehradun Police have detained 25 individuals dressed as sadhus, including one Bangladeshi national from Dhaka, who has been booked under the Foreigners Act.
Speaking to the media, Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh confirmed that under the directives of the Chief Minister, police have intensified efforts under Operation Kaalnemi. “Those detained were dressed as saints but had no religious knowledge or valid identification documents,” he said.
The campaign will continue across the region to root out those misusing religious appearance for deceitful purposes.
