Over the past few years, Uttarakhand has been experiencing a trend of year-on-year rising temperatures. It’s just the beginning, and 2025 is already showing signs of being one of the hottest years. Last year, Dehradun witnessed around 22 days of extreme heat conditions, with temperatures peaking at 43.2°C in May.
Scientists have figured out various reasons behind it, the prominent ones being climate change, deforestation, and shifting weather patterns which are making summers hotter than before. As a result, glaciers are melting faster, there is an increase in forest fires, and water availability is also affected in the hilly areas. Crop production is also affected by these unpredictable weather conditions, as reported by farmers
With this, Uttarakhand could face even more extreme conditions and bigger challenges like drought and other natural disasters. Experts recommend planting more trees, conserving water, and taking active participation to protect the environment
