On Tuesday, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) organized a major rally in Dehradun, drawing thousands of party workers and ex-servicemen.
The protest march, which advanced toward the Chief Minister’s residence, was held to demand the immediate release of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal leaders Ashutosh Negi and Ashish Negi, currently in judicial custody.
Supporters have termed the arrests baseless and politically motivated. Notably, Ashish Negi was granted bail on Tuesday night.
The demonstration saw rising tensions, culminating in clashes between protesters and police personnel. Several participants, including women, sustained injuries during the altercations.
Uttarakhand Kranti Dal has alleged that the arrests are part of a larger effort to suppress dissent in the state. Meanwhile, in a separate development, local traders—particularly from the Rajpur area—have accused certain UKD members of intimidation and extortion. Business owners and staff have reported incidents of alleged misconduct.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh has ordered an investigation into the matter and assured the local business community that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
Amid these developments, the UKD continues to press for regional demands, including its long-standing call to declare Gairsain as the permanent capital of Uttarakhand.
